Rangers Apprentice 9

Rangers Apprentice 9

By John Flanagan

This book is a close follow on from book 8 like The Siege of Macindaw and The Sorcerer in the North.

Anyway Will, Halt and Horace are in pursuit of Tennyson and his gang of outlaws, especially the two remaining Genovesan assassins. When they finally encounter the Genovesan assassins one of the assassins is shot, but Halt also is shot by their deadly crossbows and little do they know there’s poison on the bolt.

Later when it looks like Halt is ok (or is he?) he suddenly falls to the ground. Finally Will and Horace make the decision for Will to go get Malcolm the healer (remember him?). When Malcolm reveals that there is a highly deadly poison in Halt’s system they all don’t know what to do. Malcolm tells them that they have to make a decision, blue cure or white cure; if Will chooses white and Halt was infected with blue it’s all over and vice versa. But Will chooses to capture the Genovesan to find out what poison was used. Will the Genovesan tell Will or won’t he? Is the legendary Halt unstoppable? Will luck come around? Read to find out!

Well, that’s exciting or worrying? Anyway, ANOTHER John Flanagan book added to the shelf, well, they’re all good books. No comments.

I normally read the book that comes after the book I’m reviewing before I do a book review so not all the details will be correct - so don’t get angry. I have heard, and am assured by the Rangers Apprentice wiki that there IS a 12th book coming out!!!! Really, wow, the title gives it all away, The Royal Ranger!!!

Who does Evanlyn marry? I know, you don’t! <<<SPOILER ALERT>>> this is the first girl ranger, I want to see how Evanlyn and her husband like this, I wonder if they know or not. The book is coming out in 2013 October, sorry don’t have the day but it is exciting as hell!!!!! Sadly it’s the last book in the series. It’s all so sad I wanted to be able to see more of the “The Royal Ranger” but the other series ‘Brother Band’ will continue - luckily. My rating for Rangers Apprentice 9  is 3 and a half. Because it could have been more exciting, although it was a heart-in-mouth time for me when Halt was shot.

The rate tec out.

Igraine the Brave

Igraine the Brave

By Cornelia Funke

Igraine comes from a small family of magicians who live at castle pimpernel. Her parents were making her birthday present when they accidentally turn themselves into pigs. The next day the castle comes under siege by lord Osmund, Igraine goes to get the cure for her parents and leaves Albert (her brother) to defend the castle. And on the way back she meets a sorrowful but helpful knight. When she gets home the sorrowful knight distracts lord Osmund while Igraines parents slowly turn themselves normal again.

There isn’t too much action in this story. The author could have included more action like more chapters and maybe at the end a dragon could come to help lord Osmund with the siege. This way we would get more fighting and magic.

Igraine is my favourite character. Even though the rest of her family are magicians she chooses to be a knight. She does not let the fact that the rest of her family are magicians get her down.

This is a good book over all and I give it 3 and half stars because it certainly could have been more exiting. But it was good to read from an old author. (Cornelia Funke wrote Inkheart, Inkdeath and Inkspell).

Rangers Apprentice, Erak’s Ransom

Rangers Apprentice, Erak’s Ransom

Book 7

By John Flanagan

Before I start this review I would like to tell you that I might start game reviews.
Not just any games, video games!!!   (<’-‘>) Don’t be like that ugly, sad, fleshy face.
It might take me a bit longer to get them online but, but I’ll try make them longer ahhhh! Sorry, my cat creeped up on me and ‘meowed’ in my face, ok to the book review.

So, this book is where Erak is captured on a raid by Arrida. During the raid, as he was being captured, Erak sent Svengal to Araluen so to meet Will, Halt, Gilan, Horace and princess Cassandra (blow the trumpets) and ask them to help save him. When they find out that some one else took Erak from Arrida (is Erak a parcel?), they teamed teamed with Arrida to help find Erak.

In a SANDSTORM Tug (Will's horse) is blown away not, like, in the air but loses all his senses and is lost. Will, after nearly dying of hunger and stupidity finds Tug (smug grin), in the meantime Horace, Halt, Selethen and so on are captured (SERIOUSLY)! The name of the capturers of Erak, Horace, Halt etc is Tualaghi - Will goes to assault them with the Bedullin, the tribe who had saved Will from dehydration and stupidity (typical).

So now is where we talk rubbish, comments, ratings and other things.

This is the last book of Will being an Apprentice, pretty much a prequel of 4 and 5. Anyway, John Flanagan, his rating as an author for me is pretty high, quality and quantity pretty much lots of books and a lot of effort, that effort has paid off really, really, really well. Last bit my rating of this book is hhhhhhmmmmmm………  4 stars because the bits when Halt, Horace and Selethen were planning (during the time that Will was recovering Tug) were quite boring. If these chapters weren’t so boring I would have given it 4 and a half stars, too sad so bad the saying goes. GO JOHN FLANAGAN KEEP THOSE BOOKS COMING AT ME!!!!!

The rate tec out.

Rangers Apprentice

Rangers Apprentice

By John Flanagan

In Rangers Apprentice a young boy called Will of the age of about 15 years old is accepted as an apprentice by a grumpy Craft master called Halt. When he is accepted at first he thinks being a Rangers apprentice is boring. But later when he gets items from Halt and other people like a bow, throwing knife, Saxe knife, a Rangers cloak and his pony Tug, he starts to realize that being a Ranger is not so boring after all. When Will is trained up enough he goes to meet the Ranger Corps were he might be accepted as a “second class” Ranger apprentice. When he gets there he meets Halts old apprentice Ranger called Gilan. When the Ranger Corps meeting is canceled Gilan, Will and Halt go to find the cause of the cancelation. They find a horrible, vile and nearly invincible pair of Kalkara, Will goes off to tell the Baron Arald to bring heavy chivalry to defeat the Kalkara; but Halt has already gone in for the kill, will he survive?

I am actually up to the third book in the series so I know how most things fit together; I think I will be reading this series for a while because I have seen number 11! Overall I think this is a real good book because it is another “middle ages” book and I seem to be liking that sort of category at the moment. I really really like this series at the moment so am giving it … 4 STARS THIS BOOK SHOULD BE WORTH $$$$$$ DOLLARS!!! And I really think this book deserves it, and I got a bit exited because not many books get that rating from me. Have a good day everyone!!

The Trials of Oland Born

by Alex Barclay

Oland Born is a humble servant who has found a letter from a long dead king and sets off to do the letter’s bidding. On the way he meets a lonely girl called Delphi who helps him in his journey. They try to find an archivist who they think wrote the letter, just as they are in place to find him a pair of murderous monster making scientists come to get them.  Why do the scientists want Oland and Delphi? In the mad men’s lair, Oland and Delphi escape their grasp, and find a mysterious hut. When the hut gets destroyed by one of the men’s horrible monsters they finally get out of the lair. Where do they go? Into more danger!

This book is set in a medieval world where there are competing kingdoms, monsters, humans with special abilities and normal humans. The reasons I like this book are that I seem to be liking books with monsters and are based in medieval times also I like the characters.

My favourite character in the book was a monster called Malben. I liked him because his shape was a monkey and he literally uses his last breath for Oland.

This book also has a comment from Derek Landy, my favorite author, who wrote Skulduggery Pleasant. He says it  is "fiercely imaginative with razor sharp twists and a plot that moves so fast it ignites".

This is a good book, I give it 3 stars, because it could have been longer and it definitely could have included a lot more characters of importance. I will probably read the next book in the series.

Good bye!

The Nightmare Factory

The Nightmare Factory

By L. A. Jones

The Nightmare Factory is a book about Andy and his sister who get some money from their Mum and so they go to the street markets. When Andrew and Poppy get there, a Thug TRIES to take Poppy’s twenty-dollar note but Andy bravely tells him to go away. So the Thug comes and TRIES to strangle him, but (read this in slow motion) Andy is in slow motion plus strength super power and pushed the Thug who goes flying through the air and rolls his ankle wow! (Also stop reading slow motion now).

When a woman named Tiffany Grey comes and takes Andy and his sister to her stall, she wants Andy to meet someone, who? The person Tiffany wanted Andy to meet was an odd man called Oran. Oran gives Andy and Poppy dream catchers and tells them to hang them above their beds, but they DIDN’T!?!? At night time, Andy and Poppy haven’t hung their dream catcher’s up, then in their sleep they are kidnapped by a strange, awful, creature called Vesuvius, this creature is the leader of the nightmare factory.

The Nightmare factory is, well, a Nightmare factory, children are taken out of their dreams to the Nightmare factory. When this happens the children are put into special machines to extract their worst fears, so then this is how nightmares are made.

When Andrew and Poppy are taken to the Nightmare factory they wake up in a strange room were they get a strange hole in their neck, what does this do? After that Andy and Poppy are taken to a cafeteria like place where they meet a boy called Dan. Dan has only two more weeks to live; the Nightmare factory needs children under the age of 16, because the child over the age of 16’s fear is not powerful enough.  On the 16th birthday they put the child in the Mountain of Doom where they will get killed.

The evil Vesuvius is not the only one who runs the Nightmare factory; there are these evil, black, bony, caped, horrifying, creatures called Shadowmares! They are the minions of Vesuvius and spread the nightmares they produce.

I liked book because it was exciting and it had many twists. I liked the imagination in it because there was a lot of unusual things and cool places – including the nightmare factory.

This book is a bit violent so you should decide if you want a bit of fright or not, in other words I recommend this book for people who like excitement!

I give the Nightmare factory a three stars because it could have bee a bit longer which would have been great! Have a good day!

Sorrowline

Sorrowline

By Niel Bushnell

Sorrowline is a book where a boy called Jack has accidently found out his special ability, he could travel down sorrowlines. The sorrowlines are in graves, they allow you to travel down to the date of the persons death on that grave stone. When Jack accidently does this the for the first time he goes down his mothers sorrowline there he meets his granddad, his granddad tells him to go down another sorrowline to meet his younger self in 1940, where the time travel adventure starts.

This book has a comment from Stephen Cole and if you don’t know who he you are crazy, he’s the author of Doctor Who. I’ll tell you his comment now, “What a terrific idea for a creepy time-travel thriller- I wish I’d thought of it!”.

I’ll get into the character detail now, you obviously know Jack Morrow the main character, Davey is Jacks granddad, Eloise is a friendly paladin (an Ancient warrior girl), and Rouland who is Jacks enemy; they are main characters pretty much.

It’s a good book, no, a great book.  I don’t have any age rating for this book. My rating for this book is 4-stars. Will Jack defeat Rouland? Read to find out!!!

The Run Away King

-->

The Run Away King

By Jennifer A. Nielson

The Run Away King is the second book that comes after The False Prince; I think that the two books are great and are well written. In The Run away King, Jaron goes on a dangerous journey to the pirates to stop them invading Carthya. I won’t tell you too much about this book because it would give it away, it’s tempting but I won’t. The main background is in the Pirates’ territory where there was lots of action and adventure. I got so engaged with book I was tempted too take it to school and read it in all my free time (no joke)!

I am really looking forward to the third book coming out in 2014 I think the whole book will be about the ‘thing’ at the end of the book, I think the third book will be more action packed than the first and second book put together!!! My rating for this book is a stunning four stars!

Also I recommend this book for ages in between 8 and over, it has sequences that might be a bit violent for under 8 years of age hope you like the book!!!!

The Magic Keepers 1, The Eternal Hour Glass

-->

The Magic Keepers 1, The Eternal Hour Glass

By Erica Kirov

The Magic Keepers is a book about magic, obviously. It is about a boy and girl called Nick, who is trainee magician, and Isabella his cousin. In this book the evil Rasputin wants the working eternal hourglass in his possession to preferably, steal anything he wants. Although Rasputin has the hourglass he needs the sand, which Nick has.

The eternal hourglass is an hourglass that if a magician says the right words the amazing “relic”, as the magicians call these ancient things, will stop time for ten seconds.

The book made me feel that I am glad I don’t have magic because it would be too much trouble and I’d have to eat bad food if I was a Russian magician as Nick described. They eat fish egg casserole! YUK.

These books are pretty fast to read so it would be good for a one-day trip or a sleep over, anything you prefer that is short, but I’m a pretty fast reader it might be easier for me. You can read this book and series if you want. I personally think it is a good series.

I give this book a three out of five stars.

The Mysterious Benedict Society 2

The Mysterious Benedict Society 2

Written by Trenton Lee Stewart

This is the second book in the Mysterious Benedict Society Trilogy. In this book Reynie, Kate, Sticky and Constance go on trip in which they were supposed to find Duskwort, the cure to Mr. Benedicts narcolepsy. But while Mr. Benedict was placing clues for the children to find, Mr. Curtain captured Mr. Benedict and Number Two. The children go on a perilous journey to find and save them while the ten men (called the ten men because they have ten different ways of hurting you) are out looking for them! Will the children find and save Number Two and Mr. Benedict or will they get captured and held prisoners with Number Two and Mr. Benedict?

I think the best part of the book was when they figured out the second clue because I had to read the text three times before seeing the clue.

My favourite character is still Reynie who is the smartest and figures out most of the clues.

An alternative ending might have been they escaped themselves.

I think this is a great trilogy so far and I hope you think the same thing. If you like adventure books you will like this book. My rate for this book is four stars.

The Mysterious Benedict Society

The Mysterious Benedict Society

Written by Trent Lee Stewart

This book is based on four children called Reynard or Reynie, Kate, Constance and sticky or George. In this book these four children take a test, and some didn’t complete the test but they move on to completing all the tests. When they see the test maker called Nicholas Benedict, he tells them of a wicked man called Mr. Curtain who they have stop. He’s at a school planning to brainwash everyone and convince them he’s their leader so he can take control. When the children get to the school they have to earn a special rank that will allow them to spy, know and most importantly stop Mr. Curtain. Can Reynie, Kate, Sticky and Constance stop Mr. Curtain or will everyone be brainwashed? Read The Mysterious Benedict Society to find out!

Out of this book Reynie would be my favourite character because he is the smartest out of the children, is the main character and I would make similar choices to him.

My rating for this book is four out of five because it was very engaging and I didn’t want to stop reading. Also I will try to do reviews more frequently.

The False Prince

The False Prince
By Jennifer A. Nielsen

The False Prince is a tale where an orphan called Sage is taken from his orphanage to a far away house called Farthenwood, by Conner who is planning to try make them look, feel, and act as the long lost prince Jaron.

The main people in this book are the following, Sage, Roden, Tobias, Mott, and Conner. Conner wants them to do something, but what? There is also a twist I can’t tell you it but the book is very engaging from the fourth chapter on. One of them has to be chosen to act as a prince for the rest of his life, the others? Death of course. The end was as I predicted.

If I could ask question to the author it would defiantly be why did you chose to write this trilogy?

Sage was my favourite character because he looked like me.
