The House Of Hades

The House Of Hades

By Rick Riordan

The book "The House Of Hades" is the fourth in the series called the Heroes Of Olympus.
It's based around the Greek Gods, the Roman Gods and their children called Demigods. It uses characters from the series Percy Jackson and adds in more characters as the story goes on.
The main characters are Percy, Annabeth, Bob, Hazel, Frank, Jason, Leo, Piper, Nico and Coach Hedge.

A demigod is the child of a god and a mortal. The demigods actually have powers , Percy is a son of Poseidon the god of water so he can control water. Annabeth is a daughter of Athena the god of wisdom so she is very tactical. Bob is actually a Titan so he was born just under the power of the gods and has many powers. Hazel is a daughter of Pluto the roman god of riches and death so she can summon riches (partly because of a curse though). Frank is a son of Mars the roman god of war so he can 'rage' and turn into berserker. Jason is a son of Jupiter the roman god of air so he can control the air. Piper is a daughter of Aphrodite so she can charm speak which is like bending people from their will. Nico is a son of Hades the god of the underworld so he communicates very well with the dead. Leo is a son of Hephaestus, the god of machinery so Leo is very good with machinery and crafting. Coach Hedge is a satyr, a half goat half human. Put all of that together and you have a powerful team.

At the end of the last book Percy and Annabeth fell into a 9-day fall deep hole called Tartarus, what a cliff hanger. Just be sure that Bob doesn't come in until later. In the start of this book it tells us about how Annabeth and Percy finished their landing in the hole. There is a river right below them so Percy summons it up to cushion their fall. The only way out of the underworld is through the doors of death, but their friends have to be there because of an enemy waiting for for Annabeth and Percy.

There are two stories in this book that happen in parallel. It switches perspectives between Percy and Annabeth and their friends who are coming to help them.

My favorite part of the story is when Percy and Annabeth meet the doors of death but a surprise is waiting for them. There is a big battle, and I like battles!

Before you read this review, read my review of 'the hunger games'

In the start of the book 'The Hunger Games 2' Katniss and Peeta get used the Victor Village, as well as making plans their wedding. Katniss isn't really excited about it because it is only to steer away from the threats of President Snow, and that threat is to destroy everything she loves. Things are getting bad for Katniss, Gale has been whipped, the fence has been turned on full time, there are uprisings in nearly half the districts and this is only the beginning. Just before the wedding President Snow announces the annual quarter quell Hunger Games, he says "On the seventy-fifth anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors". Once all trained up Katniss is on the pad/starter position and the bugle goes in 3,2,1 blooooop and she dives into water. She resurfaces at the cornucopia to find a bow and arrows. She equips them and- read to find out! It's actually quite thrilling so I wouldn't spoil it for the world, maybe. You'd know that I would never give away the best bit which in this case is half the book.

The main characters are Katniss, Peeta, President Snow and Haymitch is actually quite important in this book. Last if all, Finnick is a team member in Katniss's team. The side characters are Prim, Gale, Effie, Beetee, Johanna, Wiress, Mag and Katniss's mom.

My favorite character is Beetee because he is very smart and always has some logic in things.
My favorite bit was just after Katniss and her team had found water. And it rained some troublesome stuff on them.

Thank you for reading this review, bye!

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games
By Suzanne Collins

If I say "the games"I mean the hunger games, just getting that out of the way.

The hunger games is based in a world called a dystopia, dystopia means the worst place you could think of. the opposite of utopia.

The Hunger Games is an annual game which controlled by the Capitol and  is screened live on television. Each district contributes two players, one boy and one girl, with the winner being the last one of the 24 players to be alive . The Capitol is trying to keep the districts in place with hunger games by taking their children as a 'tribute'.

Now that you know where the hunger games is from and based we can get to the characters.
The main character is a girl called Katniss Everdeen, she lives in district twelve in the seam. There are 12 districts there once was a thirteenth but they started up a rebellion against the Capitol and the people in district thirteen got killed. The other characters are, Gale, he goes hunting with Katniss most of the time in the first book. Petta, he goes with Katniss to the hunger games. Prim is Katniss's sister. In the book it doesn't state her mothers name but she has a mother. Her father died in a mine explosion. Effie Trinket prepares Katniss and Petta for the games. Haymitch is a former games winner and also helps Katniss and Petta prepare for the games. Cinna is Katniss's stylist.

My favorite character is Gale because he's smart and skilled with the art of survival.

The most memorable moment for me was at the end when the 'death match' was happening a can't tell why because it would totally wreck it.

I give this book a amazingly magnificent 5 stars!!!!!! Because it was thrilling, scary and absolutely amazing in every way.

Thank you so much for reading this review

Rangers Apprentice 9

Rangers Apprentice 9

By John Flanagan

This book is a close follow on from book 8 like The Siege of Macindaw and The Sorcerer in the North.

Anyway Will, Halt and Horace are in pursuit of Tennyson and his gang of outlaws, especially the two remaining Genovesan assassins. When they finally encounter the Genovesan assassins one of the assassins is shot, but Halt also is shot by their deadly crossbows and little do they know there’s poison on the bolt.

Later when it looks like Halt is ok (or is he?) he suddenly falls to the ground. Finally Will and Horace make the decision for Will to go get Malcolm the healer (remember him?). When Malcolm reveals that there is a highly deadly poison in Halt’s system they all don’t know what to do. Malcolm tells them that they have to make a decision, blue cure or white cure; if Will chooses white and Halt was infected with blue it’s all over and vice versa. But Will chooses to capture the Genovesan to find out what poison was used. Will the Genovesan tell Will or won’t he? Is the legendary Halt unstoppable? Will luck come around? Read to find out!

Well, that’s exciting or worrying? Anyway, ANOTHER John Flanagan book added to the shelf, well, they’re all good books. No comments.

I normally read the book that comes after the book I’m reviewing before I do a book review so not all the details will be correct - so don’t get angry. I have heard, and am assured by the Rangers Apprentice wiki that there IS a 12th book coming out!!!! Really, wow, the title gives it all away, The Royal Ranger!!!

Who does Evanlyn marry? I know, you don’t! <<<SPOILER ALERT>>> this is the first girl ranger, I want to see how Evanlyn and her husband like this, I wonder if they know or not. The book is coming out in 2013 October, sorry don’t have the day but it is exciting as hell!!!!! Sadly it’s the last book in the series. It’s all so sad I wanted to be able to see more of the “The Royal Ranger” but the other series ‘Brother Band’ will continue - luckily. My rating for Rangers Apprentice 9  is 3 and a half. Because it could have been more exciting, although it was a heart-in-mouth time for me when Halt was shot.

The rate tec out.

Igraine the Brave

Igraine the Brave

By Cornelia Funke

Igraine comes from a small family of magicians who live at castle pimpernel. Her parents were making her birthday present when they accidentally turn themselves into pigs. The next day the castle comes under siege by lord Osmund, Igraine goes to get the cure for her parents and leaves Albert (her brother) to defend the castle. And on the way back she meets a sorrowful but helpful knight. When she gets home the sorrowful knight distracts lord Osmund while Igraines parents slowly turn themselves normal again.

There isn’t too much action in this story. The author could have included more action like more chapters and maybe at the end a dragon could come to help lord Osmund with the siege. This way we would get more fighting and magic.

Igraine is my favourite character. Even though the rest of her family are magicians she chooses to be a knight. She does not let the fact that the rest of her family are magicians get her down.

This is a good book over all and I give it 3 and half stars because it certainly could have been more exiting. But it was good to read from an old author. (Cornelia Funke wrote Inkheart, Inkdeath and Inkspell).

Rangers Apprentice, Erak’s Ransom

Rangers Apprentice, Erak’s Ransom

Book 7

By John Flanagan

Before I start this review I would like to tell you that I might start game reviews.
Not just any games, video games!!!   (<’-‘>) Don’t be like that ugly, sad, fleshy face.
It might take me a bit longer to get them online but, but I’ll try make them longer ahhhh! Sorry, my cat creeped up on me and ‘meowed’ in my face, ok to the book review.

So, this book is where Erak is captured on a raid by Arrida. During the raid, as he was being captured, Erak sent Svengal to Araluen so to meet Will, Halt, Gilan, Horace and princess Cassandra (blow the trumpets) and ask them to help save him. When they find out that some one else took Erak from Arrida (is Erak a parcel?), they teamed teamed with Arrida to help find Erak.

In a SANDSTORM Tug (Will's horse) is blown away not, like, in the air but loses all his senses and is lost. Will, after nearly dying of hunger and stupidity finds Tug (smug grin), in the meantime Horace, Halt, Selethen and so on are captured (SERIOUSLY)! The name of the capturers of Erak, Horace, Halt etc is Tualaghi - Will goes to assault them with the Bedullin, the tribe who had saved Will from dehydration and stupidity (typical).

So now is where we talk rubbish, comments, ratings and other things.

This is the last book of Will being an Apprentice, pretty much a prequel of 4 and 5. Anyway, John Flanagan, his rating as an author for me is pretty high, quality and quantity pretty much lots of books and a lot of effort, that effort has paid off really, really, really well. Last bit my rating of this book is hhhhhhmmmmmm………  4 stars because the bits when Halt, Horace and Selethen were planning (during the time that Will was recovering Tug) were quite boring. If these chapters weren’t so boring I would have given it 4 and a half stars, too sad so bad the saying goes. GO JOHN FLANAGAN KEEP THOSE BOOKS COMING AT ME!!!!!

The rate tec out.

Rangers Apprentice

Rangers Apprentice

By John Flanagan

In Rangers Apprentice a young boy called Will of the age of about 15 years old is accepted as an apprentice by a grumpy Craft master called Halt. When he is accepted at first he thinks being a Rangers apprentice is boring. But later when he gets items from Halt and other people like a bow, throwing knife, Saxe knife, a Rangers cloak and his pony Tug, he starts to realize that being a Ranger is not so boring after all. When Will is trained up enough he goes to meet the Ranger Corps were he might be accepted as a “second class” Ranger apprentice. When he gets there he meets Halts old apprentice Ranger called Gilan. When the Ranger Corps meeting is canceled Gilan, Will and Halt go to find the cause of the cancelation. They find a horrible, vile and nearly invincible pair of Kalkara, Will goes off to tell the Baron Arald to bring heavy chivalry to defeat the Kalkara; but Halt has already gone in for the kill, will he survive?

I am actually up to the third book in the series so I know how most things fit together; I think I will be reading this series for a while because I have seen number 11! Overall I think this is a real good book because it is another “middle ages” book and I seem to be liking that sort of category at the moment. I really really like this series at the moment so am giving it … 4 STARS THIS BOOK SHOULD BE WORTH $$$$$$ DOLLARS!!! And I really think this book deserves it, and I got a bit exited because not many books get that rating from me. Have a good day everyone!!
